Wirral Mencap Gateway Award
The Gateway Award is an awards programme for people with a learning disability. It is a bit like the Duke of Edinburgh Award with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
Participants do lots of activities each week to work towards their award. This includes things like art, sport, volunteering and group challenges.
In taking part, people experience new things, gain confidence, meet new people, have fun and get fit.
The Gateway Award has 5 modules that you have to complete:
* Fitness
* Hobbies
* Lifestyle
* Volunteering
* Challenge
You will do a range of activities for each module. Turn over for examples from this year’s activity programme.
You will have a special Gateway folder where you can record all of your achievements.
How much does it cost?
There is a one-off payment of £21 at the start of the year to cover the cost of your Gateway folder and your certificates.
It then costs £45 per day. This covers the support costs and all activity costs. Talk to your social worker about using your direct payment or personal budget to pay for your place.
How do I sign up?
If you are interested in joining the Gateway Award talk to your Social Worker or call Stuart at Wirral Mencap on 0151 666 1829.
