Volunteering Workshops by Brian Stewart
I recently attended a 6 week volunteering workshop held in the Mencap Liverpool office. These were presented by someone called Emma. Over the weeks I learnt about different aspects of volunteering. These included things such as learning about the different tasks that volunteers undertake, and the value they bring to the places they serve.
Each workshop was started by an icebreaker, where we discussed what we had done over the weekend. Then we had a recap from the last session. Some of the subjects we covered over the 6 weeks included: body language, communication, reducing waste in the workplace and in general, matching volunteer roles to their relevant jobs and health and safety in the workplace.
I enjoyed each of these sessions and acquired a lot of information throughout them. One aspect I enjoyed was working with other people on fun activities, such as matching cards and roleplay scenarios.
During the final week of the workshops the volunteers who had attended it went for lunch at the Quarter. The food in there was lovely – I had pizza to eat We also received a certificate each for taking part.
I look forward to taking part in more workshops in the future.
