Paul Jones: a snapshot from my life.
My name is Paul Jones. I am a male to female transsexual and I have some learning disabilities.
I work as a volunteer at Broadgreen Hospital in the WRVS shop & cafe. There, I shelf stack, wipe tables, collect rubbish for the bin and sometimes brush the floor. The reason why I volunteer is so I can meet new people and maybe make new friends. I work on Friday 9 to 1pm.
I love the buzz of the cafe and saying “Hello!” to the customers. I feel it has increased my confidence with people. It’s so nice to know that each Thursday, I’ve got something definite to do and I’m not at home just mouldering and getting bored. Indeed, I can’t just not go, otherwise I’d be letting people down. I feel valued and this makes me happy.
