First week, first blog…

I am half way through my first week at Mencap Liverpool and having a great time so far. Everyone has been really welcoming and friendly… there’s never a dull moment in this office!

Monday consisted of the usual meet and greets of a typical first day. As well as meeting most of the Mencap Liverpool staff, I also got to meet a few of our members, as people tend to drop by the office for a cup of tea and a chat on an almost constant basis! One of the aspects I most admire about the charity is its strong sense of community, so its great to feel a part of it!

My main job as campaigns officer will be helping to organise our Bit Cuts Event in April. It’s the last in a series of  roadshow events across the country telling people about the cuts that are happening in their area, and looking ways to fight them. I’ll also be helping to organise a workshop for people with a learning disability, which will run alongside the event. Although cheif exec Sarah joked she was “throwing me in at the deep end”, I am very excited to be helping out with something so worthwhile and important.

My work so far has been varied… I’ve done everything from writing for the website, to organising bookings  for the Big Cuts Event, to stuffing hundreds of envelopes with letters to our members (letting them know about the Big Cuts Event)!

The days are flying by at the minute and things are only going to get busier… looking forward to it!
