My name is Emma Geraghty and I’ve been a part of Mencap Liverpool and Sefton for 10 years.

I like the people who go to Mencap, I enjoy making new friends, getting to know people and the staff are good too!

When I first came to Mencap I used to do the photocopying and answer the phone in the office and do the cleaning, I’ve worked with the police and done workshops with them and I love going to the Fundraising Evenings that we have.

I think I would make a good chairperson for Mencap Liverpool and Sefton because:

• I know how to speak to people
• I know how to listen
• I have learnt so many skills at Mencap and I support every single course, session and event that we have.

 

I would like to also introduce new ideas – especially in meetings.  I think they work really well and give everyone a chance to speak.

The pandemic has been hard and I do miss seeing all my friends but I have really got behind the zoom meetings and got involved.

I enjoy doing all of the exercises with Charlotte, Chair Exercises, Yoga, Zumba – it’s really important to me to keep fit and I also go for a walk in my local park every day.

I also do the mindfulness which is relaxing and we are working on a book with Clare and Charlotte.  I really enjoy Women’s Group and seeing my friends.

I like the quizzes and the games, we playthings like Eye Spy and Scavenger Hunts and boy/girl.

I’m also a part of Directions and since we went into lockdown I have been on lots of online courses and I have learned a lot and it has really built my confidence up too.

I am hard working, and I’m committed.  I take notes and I have got a good memory.  I am brilliant at helping people.

Vote for me because I would like to be the Chair and I will work with the Trustees and speak up for all the members.
