Chair’s Report
It gives me great pleasure to introduce the first Trustees’ Annual Report to be produced during my time as Chair having been appointed at the last AGM. Special mention must of course go to Alan Griffiths who guided the charity through most of the period to which this report relates.
There are many exciting things in this report. It always staggers me at this time of year when I look back on just what has been achieved over the course of a year. How can a charity the size of Mencap Liverpool achieve so much? Due to our fantastic CEO, staff and volunteers of course. I won’t go over all those great achievements here. I will let you read them for yourself. After all, it’s a good read.
I will, however, pick out one highlight. It is not an obvious one, but is the one that means that all the other brilliant things in the report will continue to be delivered by our brilliant staff team for the foreseeable future. It is the sentence that reads “The trustees are therefore confident that Mencap Liverpool will remain a going concern for the foreseeable future.” I am very proud of the board of Trustees for having formulated a plan to make the charity financially stable, for sticking to it and for starting to deliver upon it. We do not take anything for granted, but for the first time since I have been a trustee, we have a predicted a surplus and can be confident that we can deliver it.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the report.
Matt Smith, Chair of Trustees
