Brian’s Blog: Liverpool Half Marathon
On Sunday 18th March 2012 I took part in the Liverpool Half Marathon. I was both excited and nervous, as this was the first time I had taken part in the event for 4 years. The event started at 9.30am and I arrived at about 9.00am, so I would have enough time to warm up and stretch. At about 9.15am I lined up with everyone else in preparation for the start of the race. The race was started by former Olympian Kris Akabusi.
It took about 10 minutes for me to reach the start line as there were so many people taking part. The weather was sunny and I was able to keep a steady pace. There were water stops every 3 miles which came in very handy. There was an incline near the start, but the rest of the route was mainly flat.
During the last 2-3 miles I started to struggle and my pace dropped but the crowds along the way kept me going. I was happy when I crossed the finish line and received a t-shirt and medal. My official time for the race was 1 hour 45 minutes and 52 seconds which I was very pleased about. I hope to take part in the event again next year.
