Brian Stewart – Bowling with the Learning Disability Coalition
On Monday 26th September 2011 I went ten pin bowling at Hollywood Bowl with people and volunteers from Mencap Liverpool along with one local MP and representatives from National Mencap and other organisations, such as the Learning Disability Coalition. I was able to talk to the invited people and tell them a little about myself, and also find out about the work they do.
We had one game of ten pin bowling. One team consisted of people associated with Mencap Liverpool and a man from another organisation, and the other team consisted of representatives from other organizations, such as the Learning Disability Coalition. The game was very competitive. I got one strike and my final score was 92. Everyone else on my team played very well too. Lois even managed to get 2 strikes, despite claiming that she was not very good at ten pin bowling! Stephen John representing the other team got the highest score at 146. Towards the end the competitiveness between the two teams became intense. However both teams got on well and it helped to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
This event was organized by the Learning Disability Coalition. This aims to promote the voice of people with a learning disability to enable them to lead independent lives, and making sure they have access to adequate support and services.
