August blog

Hi, my name’s Janet and I’m the Members Liaison Officer for Mencap Liverpool.

After another very busy couple of weeks in the Mencap Liverpool office, another newsletter was sent out. It’s a very good newsletter. We also have a newsletter that is written by our members called Listen Up.

This past week I have written out my will – after nine years of being nagged by my husband to do this! We went to one of the seminars that National Mencap ran in the North West a couple of years back. We found that very interesting as there was a lot of interesting information on how to make a will. Like everyone I hated the idea of having to write a will out, but I knew that in order to protect my disabled daughter I should have something in place. I feel a little better about writing the will, but to be honest with you it was very challenging. In the end I think it will be worth it.

If anyone wants to make a will, but need to talk to someone that has done one, please get in touch with me on 0151 707 8582 or at janet.sullivan@mencapliverpool.org.uk.

We went to Blakemere Craft and Wildlife Centre on the August 24th, it was a great day. Even though it rained when we were outside and lovely sunny when we were inside working. We were introduced to a number of birds of prey and a very small owl called Bolt – he is a Burrowing Owl, and so very cute.

We are running a steering group for our members so they can give their opinion on the way Mencap Liverpool can move forward, helping to shape our charity now and in the future. Remember you are always welcome to visit our office, from coming to a carers’ drop-in, to using the computer, to getting help with a project or just to having some quiet time. You can get in touch with, from Monday to Thursday, on 0151 707 8582.
