Sarah Jones – Chief Executive

12573021_10100449441111052_2837215072599235366_nI’m Sarah, and I’m the Chief Exec. I’ve worked for Mencap Liverpool since July 2009 and I love it!  I’m the boss so I spend half my time supporting the staff team and the other half developing new project ideas and relationships with funders and partner organisations.

When I’m not working I love baking cakes, pottering in my little garden, training for marathons and Stand Up Paddle boarding.

Jeanette McHugh – Directions Team Manager

JeanetteI joined Mencap Liverpool & Sefton in February 2020 (although I’d got to know some of the team when I worked for another organisation).  My role involves delivering the Directions project, as well as empowering our members I give confidence to all around me. My team describe me as ‘Mother Earth’ as I’m calm, positive and honest.

My family and friends are very important to me, I have been with my husband for 40 years and would be lost without him. Together we share two children, two granddaughters and we have a new grandson!  Home is a special place for me where everyone can come back and stay, it’s also where my 3 dogs keep me company and make me smile.

Jo Bruce – Independence Trainer

I joined Mencap Liverpool & Sefton in Jan 2020.  My role is to empower people to be the best version of themselves. My team describe me as the ‘entertainer’, I’m witty, kind, honest. I believe honesty is at the heart of everything.
I am a people lover so can get away with being a wee bit cheeky.

I welcome everyone as an old friend that I haven’t met yet. My family are the most important thing in the world to me and I love spending time with them. I wake up each morning wanting to make each day the best it can be, for everyone I come across, and I take it as a new chance to be the best person I can be – I don’t often achieve either but that’s my goal.

Angie Quinn – Centre Manager

I joined Mencap Liverpool & Sefton to change people’s attitudes towards learning disabilities and empower people to create a better world, where we are all valued equally, listened to and included.

I have lived in the Waterloo area most of my life and the cottage has always been a building I have been intrigued by, so when the job role was advertised I wanted to be part of the team to open up this fantastic building and all it offers to the local and wider community and draw attention to this fantastic cause in trying to promote individuality, equality and prevent social isolation and the problems it causes.

I like spending time with my family, my husband Ged and my daughter Isobel, we especially like to go to restaurants and try different foods.

I also have a West Highland Terrier called Daisy who I like to take on long countryside walks, I love all animals and when I get the chance, my favourite thing is to go horse riding.

Amy Pollard – Coffee Shop Manager

I’m Amy and I’m new to the team and my role is to run the new and exciting coffee shop in Crosby, ‘Coffee at Mencap’.  I’m an experienced Barista and am really excited to make the most of the opportunity in Crosby working with our members, people with learning disabilities, to work on their confidence and upskill their CV’s.

I have only been here for a short amount of time, however, I have loved it! Getting to work with the Mencap L&S team along with the members has just felt right, its great to have an insight into everything and ways in which I am able to help.

In my spare time I enjoy getting out into the fresh air with friends and family and spending lots of time socialising. I am a creative person so depending on how much time I have I usually enjoy making clothing or using technology to see what I can make!
