Ticket to Ride

Commuters enter Ticket to Ride podTo celebrate Learning Disability Week 2013 we launched Ticket to Ride – an interactive ‘travel pod’ giving Liverpool commuters the opportunity to experience travelling on public transport through the eyes and ears of someone with a learning disability.

At Liverpool’s busy Lime Street station, more than 100 visitors stepped inside the nine-foot pod for two minutes to see, hear and feel what bus or train travel is like from the perspective of three young people who have a learning disability.

People with a learning disability experience public transport differently. Inaccessible information and hate crime can make travelling a daunting prospect, however public transport can also open up a world of opportunity and social experiences. So Mencap Liverpool commissioned the installation to challenge negative perceptions in a fun and engaging way.
