Community Connectors

Community Connectors is an exciting new Mencap Liverpool project which aims to create more cohesive local communities, through social engagement and interaction. Our goal is to work with local people and organisations to promote community cohesion though volunteering with Mencap Liverpool, supporting individuals become more connected to the people and opportunities in their neighbourhood.

Our outreach coordinator (Sheldon Griffiths ) and befriending manager (Lois Nash) aim to recruit, prepare and develop a pool of volunteers who can support isolated individuals with a learning disability living nearby, to access services and activities that can help people develop and expand their social networks.

Community connecting volunteers provide short term one-one support to individuals with a learning disability, helping, supporting and encouraging socially isolated people to access services, social groups, activities, and social opportunities in their local community. Community connecting volunteers work closely with the Mencap Liverpool outreach team, and provide a very important role in supporting socially isolated individuals with a learning disability meet new people and develop new friendships, helping individuals with personal development, confidence building and overall wellbeing.
